Position Description

Position: Substance Use Disorder Counselor (TEMPORARY POSITION)
Healthy Border Initiative Project (Position ends September 27, 2024)
Location: 1605 Saldana Ave. (Main Office)

Duties: Counselor will provide evidence-based outpatient treatment services to adult individuals with substance use or co-occurring disorders. Counselor will be responsible for client caseloads, screenings and assessments, individual and group counseling sessions, documentation of client progress and participation, treatment plans and review, coordination of services, case management and discharge planning. Counselor will work on identifying client's need and provide link to support services. Program Director and treatment team staff work closely and collaboratively to provide the best quality service for all individuals seeking services.

SCAN has more than 39 years of experience in behavioral health and is committed to the highest quality standards in treatment services. New counselors receive training on all evidence-based practices and cutting-edge competencies in culturally responsive, integrated mental health and substance use disorder treatment. As part of the clinical treatment team, the counselor will receive ongoing supervision, trainings and consultation in the delivery of services within a strength-based supportive environment. If LPC-A, SCAN provides free supervision and offers all program counselors opportunity to expand and grow within the agency’s multiple comprehensive programs. If LCDC-I, SCAN has HHSC approved Clinical Training Institute registered sites to provide Supervised Work Experience hours to Counselor Interns and supports professional development.

Minimum Qualifications:
 Bachelor’s degree in the behavioral sciences, master’s degree preferred.
 Must be an LCDC or be registered with TX DSHS as LCDC-Intern
 Bilingual: English and Spanish
 Good computer skills.
 Valid TX driver’s license, good driving record and reliable transportation.

Salary Range: $18.75 to $20.19 per hour depending on experience and qualifications plus benefits.
