Position Description

Position: Licensed Vocational Nurse

Founded in 1982 in Laredo, Texas, SCAN is a leading provider of social services in South Texas. SCAN offers a friendly and supportive working environment that encourages personal and professional growth.

We are seeking a full-time LVN to work at our Drop-In Center Program. SCAN's Drop-In Center Program provides services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and it is designed to offer inclusive and comprehensive services for individuals experiencing crisis events or problems with substances. The Drop-In Center seeks to reduce harm associated with substance use, including overdose and death, and increase recovery initiation. The Drop-In Center provides peer-oriented recovery support and harm reduction services to both adolescents and adults. The LVN will provide basic health prevention services, engage in health presentations and training sessions to program participants and community members, and participate as needed to benefit the recovery process for clients in the Drop-In Center.

WORK SCHEDULE

The schedule for this position will be Monday - Friday with some weekend work on Saturdays, working 40 hours per week. This schedule is subject to change.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide comprehensive harm reduction prevention services to adolescent and adult program participants who report problems with using alcohol or other substances.
• Provide naloxone and administration training to program participants and community members.
• Provide life-skills and curriculum-based education sessions to participants.
• Provide alcohol, tobacco, and other drug (ATOD) positive alternative activities to participants. 
• Provide Behavioral Health and Wellness positive alternative activities to participants.
• Document all services provided.
• Provide basic health prevention services such as measuring vital signs, obtaining medical histories, and collecting urine specimens as needed from participants. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

• Completion of accredited Licensed Vocational Nurse program
• 2 or more years' experience working in inpatient or outpatient setting is preferred, but not required
• Prior work experience with individuals that have substance abuse and/or mental health problems preferred, but not required
• Bilingual (English and Spanish) is a plus, but not required.

Qualifications

• License Vocational Nurse Licensure in Texas
• Valid Texas driver’s license
• Reliable transportation
