Position Description

Position: Certified Medical Assistant

Founded in 1982 in Laredo, Texas, SCAN is a leading provider of social services in South Texas. SCAN offers a friendly and supportive working environment that encourages personal and professional growth.

We are seeking a full-time CMA to work at our Office Based Opiate Treatment Program (OBOT). The OBOT program provides individual and group counseling along with medication assisted therapy using Suboxone. Within the CMA scope of practice and under the supervision of the Family Nurse Practitioner, the CMA provides safe, competent patient-center services for participants.

WORK SCHEDULE

The schedule for this position will be Monday-Friday 8:00 am -5:00 pm. This schedule is subject to change based on patient's needs.

JOB RESPONSIBILITES

  • Supply and administer suboxone according to specific orders and protocols implemented by SCAN's MAT Nurse Practitioner or MAT Medical Director.
  • Provide take-home doses suboxone according to specific orders and protocols implemented by the MAT Nurse Practitioner of MAT Medical Director.
  • Participates in ongoing assessment for signs and symptoms of over-sedation or withdrawal and alerts MAT Nurse Practitioner.
  • Participate in intake as directed by MAT Nurse Practitioner. This may include, but is not limited to: measuring vital signs, obtaining medical/ psychiatric histories, and collecting urine/blood specimens as needed.
  • Maintain the security of controlled substances and perform daily controlled substance inventory.
  • Ensure all necessary regulatory reports are generated and done as required.
  • Enter all medical orders and information related to dosing into agency's EHR.
  • Assist with telephone orders from MAT Medical Director as delegated by the Nurse Practitioner.
  • Ensure lab results are received and available in the electronic record. Notify MAT Nurse Practitioner, and counselor of positive client drug screens.
  • Participate in coordination of dosing with SCAN's adult inpatient facilities, detention facilities, and services for homebound clients.
  • Identify abnormal client behavior, document and report to MAT Nurse Practitioner.
  • Assist NP or Medical Director with management of medical crises.
  • Participate in weekly treatment team meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS
Educational and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be a Certified Medical Assistant in Texas
  • 2 or more years experience working in inpatient or outpatient setting
Minimal Licensure/Certification
  • Certified Medical Assistant in Texas
  • Valid Texas Driver's License
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
  • Ability to keep timely and accurate documentation
  • Ability to identify and report client sedation
  • Ability to draw blood/ obtain urine specimens/ measure and record vital signs
