(40 hrs. per week)

Family Support Specialist for the STAR Youth and Family Program

The Program’s mission is to prevent and reduce the problems of runaway, school absenteeism, family conflict and youth crime by helping youth achieve goals that strengthen families.
The STAR Youth and Family Program Family Support Specialist is required to work with the family and youth to identify the presenting concern and subsequent concerns, identify the family and individual’s strengths and use an evidenced-based program curriculum to help clients resolve problematic behavior and build effective coping strategies.

Primary responsibilities include:
1. Recruit, screen, and assess youth to determine their needs and eligibility.
2. Provide individual and family skill building sessions.
3. Provide parenting education and youth coping skills groups.
4. Provide face to face crisis intervention services. (Be on call 24 hours a day including weekends for phone crisis intervention on a rotating schedule)
5. Parenting education and youth coping skills groups will require some travel to Maverick, La Salle, Jim Hogg, Zapata and Starr Counties.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in the Behavioral Sciences + one year of prevention experience working with children, youth or families.
• Must be bilingual (English/Spanish).
• Must have reliable transportation, auto insurance and a valid driver’s license.

Hourly Rate: $13.46- $15.38 depending on qualifications and experience.
